Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our free matching service and bed bug treatment in the UK.
About The Bed Bug Network
What is The Bed Bug Network?
The Bed Bug Network is a free, independent matching service. We connect homeowners, tenants, and landlords across the UK with vetted, insured bed bug treatment specialists. We're not a treatment company — we don't send technicians ourselves. We find you a trusted local contractor who does.
Is it free to use?
Yes, completely. There is no charge at any point to submit a quote request, get matched, or receive a quote. Our service is funded by the contractors who join the network — not by the homeowners who use it.
How does the matching process work?
You submit your postcode and some brief details about your situation. We search our contractor database for a vetted specialist covering your area and pass your details to them. They contact you directly with a no-obligation quote. The whole process typically takes a few hours.
Is there any obligation to book once I receive a quote?
None whatsoever. A quote through The Bed Bug Network carries zero obligation. You can accept it, decline it, or get additional quotes — the choice is entirely yours.
Our contractors
How do you vet contractors?
Before any contractor can receive enquiries through our network, we verify their public liability insurance and pest control qualifications. We do not list uninsured or unqualified operators.
Are contractors members of a trade body?
Many of the contractors in our network hold memberships with bodies such as the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) or the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA). We encourage membership but do not require it as a condition of listing.
What happens if I am unhappy with the contractor?
Contact us and we will investigate. We take our contractor standards seriously — any contractor who fails to meet them is reviewed and may be removed from the network.
Bed bug treatment
What types of treatment do your contractors offer?
The specialists in our network offer a range of treatments, including professional heat treatment (the most effective option, killing all life stages in a single visit), residual chemical spray treatment, and combined approaches. Your matched contractor will advise on the best option for your situation.
How much does bed bug treatment cost?
Prices vary depending on the size of your property, the severity of the infestation, and the treatment method. Larger properties and whole-home treatments cost more than a single room. Submit a quote request to get a price specific to your situation.
How long does bed bug treatment take?
Heat treatment typically takes 4–8 hours depending on the size of the area being treated. Chemical spray treatments are usually quicker (1–2 hours) but may require follow-up visits. Your contractor will give you a precise timeline when they quote.
Do I need to leave my home during treatment?
For heat treatment, yes — you, your family, and any pets will need to vacate the property for the duration of the treatment and for a period afterwards (typically 30–60 minutes). For chemical treatments, the exit period depends on the products used. Your contractor will advise.
Can bed bugs come back after treatment?
A professional heat treatment kills all bed bugs at all life stages — including eggs — in a single visit, making recurrence unlikely. Chemical treatments may require follow-up visits to catch newly hatched eggs. The most common cause of re-infestation is reintroduction from outside (travel, second-hand furniture, visitors). Many contractors offer a guarantee period — ask when you receive your quote.
